About The Event

Learning Objectives: 

At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to: 

(1) Identify the historical and economic  factors that set the Appalachian region apart from other rural parts of the  country;  

(2) Describe 3 demographic groups that have been  erased from national narratives about Appalachia; 

(3) Identify  structural, intrapersonal, and interpersonal barriers to mental health care  for people in the Appalachian region; and 

(4) Create a culturally  sensitive approach to the initial intake and subsequent therapeutic treatment  of people in Appalachia.
